When you place items in a Rempla vault box, you and Rempla enter into a bailment. A bailment is a legal arrangement in which you (the bailor) deliver tangible personal property to Rempla (the bailee) for safekeeping and eventual delivery, without transferring ownership. The full terms are set out in Rempla’s Bailment Agreement; the points below are a summary only.
Ownership and control
The contents of your vault box remain your property at all times until delivery to your designated beneficiary. Rempla takes physical custody of the box and its contents to store and deliver them on your behalf. Rempla does not take title to the contents, does not treat them as investments, and does not commingle them with the property of other customers.
Rempla’s duties as bailee
Rempla is obligated to exercise reasonable care over your vault box while it is in our custody. That includes climate-controlled storage, 24/7 facility monitoring, multi-factor physical access controls, tamper-evident packaging, and documented chain-of-custody records from intake through delivery.
Insurance coverage
Every Rempla vault box includes bailee insurance coverage up to your declared value at no additional charge. Coverage protects against loss or damage while items are in Rempla’s care, subject to standard exclusions (for example, pre-existing damage, prohibited items, or acts of the bailor). Claims are administered per the Bailment Agreement and the underlying insurance policy.
Prohibited contents
Vault boxes may not contain cash, controlled substances, firearms, hazardous materials, perishable items, living things, or anything unlawful to possess or transfer. Prohibited items may be refused at intake or removed later if discovered; the full list is in the Bailment Agreement.
Storage fees and Reserve
Storage fees paid in advance are held in the Rempla Storage Reserve — an internal bookkeeping balance from which monthly storage accruals are drawn. The Reserve is not a custodial account, escrow, or investment. Remaining balances at delivery are handled as described in the Reserve terms.
No lien for unpaid fees
Rempla will not withhold delivery or assert a lien against the property in your vault box for failure to pay. If the Storage Reserve is ever exhausted, our early-delivery safeguard returns the box to you (if living) or to your designated recipient rather than holding it indefinitely.
What Rempla is not
Rempla is not preneed funeral, burial, or cemetery services; not life, annuity, or any other form of insurance; not an estate planning, legal, or financial advisory service; and not a trust. Rempla acts solely as bailee, storing and delivering the contents you provide according to the trigger you configure.
