Rempla helps you plan how — and when — you'll be remembered. Not the paperwork of death. The moments that matter. A letter handed to your daughter on her wedding day. Flowers on your wife's birthday, every year. The pocket watch your father gave you, delivered to your grandson when he turns eighteen. You decide what, and who, and when. We make sure it arrives.
Most people know what estate planning is. You sign a will, name an executor, and your lawyer files it away. If you've thought about the end of life a little more deeply, you may also know about preneed funeral arrangements — the logistics of what happens after you pass.
But there's a big quiet space between those two things. The space where the people you love think about you. The space where a birthday comes around and they wish you were still here. The space where a granddaughter turns sixteen and wonders what her grandmother would have said.
Remembrance Planning lives in that space. It's how you stay present in the lives of the people you love — at the moments when your presence would mean the most. Some of those moments are happening right now. Some are decades away. Some may come after you're gone. Remembrance Planning treats all of them as worth planning for.
We coined the term because the thing we do didn't have a name yet. Estate planning protects your assets. Funeral planning handles your ceremony. Remembrance planning protects the thread of connection between you and the people you love — and lets you hand-pick how it's carried forward.
If you're thinking "this sounds a lot like ___," it helps to say exactly what Rempla is and isn't.
Rempla is not estate planning. We don't draft wills, establish trusts, or transfer title to real property. Your attorney still handles all of that. A Rempla plan sits alongside your estate plan, not inside it.
Rempla is not preneed funeral or burial services. We don't sell caskets, prepay cremation, or arrange services. We don't touch any of the arrangements your family makes at the time of passing.
Rempla is not life insurance or an annuity. Nothing you pay us is a death benefit, an investment product, or a wager on longevity. Your Rempla account isn't a security.
Rempla is not a trust. We act as your service provider — holding your keepsakes and carrying out your scheduled-gift instructions on your behalf. Your items remain yours (this is a bailment — the same legal arrangement as a coat check, scaled up and made much more careful). Your prepaid funds for scheduled gifts sit in an FDIC-insured custodial account at a U.S. bank, titled for your benefit, and can be refunded at any time.
What Rempla is: a dedicated, modern service for carrying out intentional acts of remembrance — safely, reliably, and on the schedule you set.
Every Rempla plan is built from two building blocks. You can use one, or both, in any combination.
Vault Boxes are physical safekeeping for the things you want to hand down. Letters you've written. Jewelry that's been in the family for generations. Photo albums, keepsakes, a baseball signed by your grandfather. You tell us what's inside, who it's for, and when to deliver — a specific date, a milestone (a wedding, a graduation, an eighteenth birthday). Until then, we store each box securely, tamper-evidently, in our facility. When the trigger fires, it's in your recipient's hands.
Scheduled Gifts are the recurring, thoughtful gestures you'd send yourself if time and memory always cooperated. Flowers on your wife's birthday every year. A curated care package for your son's anniversary. A handwritten card — one you actually wrote, in your own hand — mailed to your daughter on the first day of spring, every spring, for as long as you tell us to. You prepay the full schedule up front, we hold those funds in the Rempla Gift Reserve (the FDIC-insured custodial account mentioned above), and the gifts go out on time, year after year.
Both products can be paused, adjusted, or canceled — but only by you. Once your plan is in place, no one else can modify it. You can, however, designate a trusted person — what we call a Plan Protector — whose role is to notify Rempla of your passing and help us gather any information we need to carry out your deliveries. And both products are covered by a fully guaranteed price: we lock in what you'll pay when you sign up, and we absorb cost overruns ourselves.
There's no single right profile. Some people find Rempla in their thirties, thinking about their young kids. Some find it in their sixties, after a diagnosis. Some find it in their eighties, having outlived most of the people they'd once planned with.
What every Rempla customer has in common is a specific thought: there are people I love, and moments in their lives I want to be part of, whether or not I'm there. That thought can be prompted by a birth, a wedding, a loss, an anniversary, a change in health, or just a quiet Tuesday night. We meet you wherever it starts.
Remembrance Planning isn't a morbid activity. Most of the people we serve describe it as a relief — finally, a place to put the intention they'd been carrying around for years.
Not everyone arrives ready to stow a Vault Box or schedule a gift on day one. Most people want to see the picture first — who's in their life, what's already accounted for, what's still a blank space.
The Planning Tree is Rempla's free visualization of the people you'd plan for. You create a short profile for each person who matters — a spouse, a child, a grandchild, a lifelong friend — and each one becomes a branch on the tree. In one place, you can see everyone your remembrance planning (and your estate planning more broadly) would touch.
You don't need a Rempla plan to use it, and you don't need to have started estate planning. We built the Planning Tree as a starting point, not a locked upgrade — it's free with any Rempla account. If you later decide to add a Vault Box or a Scheduled Gift, the tree is already populated. If you don't, the tree is still yours — keep it private, update it whenever life changes, or delete it anytime.
If you already have a trust or a will, can scan those documents and populate your Planning Tree automatically — strictly a convenience. Most customers start with the free tree and only upgrade if that shortcut matters to them.
You can explore either product without committing to anything. Your plan auto-saves as you go.
